W.G. Blackmon, Jr. first met Scott Mooring in the late 1930s while attending TCU in Ft. Worth, TX. However, when the war started in 1941, both men joined the Navy and went to opposite theaters of action. Mr. Blackmon says that the reason he signed up for the Navy, was because his wife, Genevieve, thought that their uniforms were the best looking of all military uniforms.
After the war ended, both men returned to Texas. Mr. Mooring began asking Mr. Blackmon to go into business with him, but neither one knew what business they would start. During this time, Mr. Blackmon worked for his wife's father in his furniture upholstery business. After many calls from customers, Mr. Blackmon began to learn how to clean the furniture as opposed to reupholstering the furniture. The idea for a business came to him. In 1948, Mr. Blackmon and Mr. Mooring went into the business of cleaning furniture.
In May of 1949, the Trinity River levee broke and completely flooded homes and businesses in the area surrounding the Montgomery Ward building. This was the company's first foray into the disaster recovery business with the company cleaning clothes and furniture of the families affected by the flood. From that point on, business took off. The company name was chosen at the spur of the moment with Mr. Mooring facing the decision to either choose a company name or get left out of the yellow pages for a year.
Blackmon Mooring worked hard and in the process identified, pioneered and perfected cleaning methods such as hot water extraction carpet cleaning. The company has been a staple in the Ft. Worth community for over 60 years. Still family owned and operated by the Blackmon family, the first location has grown to 11 locations across the states of Texas and Oklahoma, Atlanta and Southern California. In the next two years, the company looks to expand further into other areas of the country.
The Dallas-Ft. Worth location is centrally located in the warehouse district in Arlington and has over 100,000 square feet of warehouse space to store and clean furniture, electronics, documents and so much more. The Corporate Headquarters is located near the West 7th Street district in Ft. Worth.
Blackmon Mooring has been cleaning furniture and carpet, restoring homes and businesses after a fire or flood and helping communities recover from devastating storms since 1948. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. No job is too big or too small for Blackmon Mooring.
